Adventure Holidays in Namibia
Carved out of the sands of the Kalahari and Namib deserts, Namibia is a harshly beautiful land of contrasting landscapes, fascinating people and prolific wild life, and one that offers a range of exciting and unique adventure activities.
Our package adventure holidays in Namibia are tailor-made to your needs. If it can be done, we can organise it!
4x4 Adventure Holidays
Namibia’s dramatic and changing landscapes are perfect for those who love discovering the great outdoors in the relative comfort of a 4x4 and there are several dedicated trails that make for the ultimate 4x4 challenge. Organised 4x4 group tours take guests through some of the most rough and rugged terrain in the world. Or for those of you wanting a self-drive safari, you can rent a 4x4 vehicle in Windhoek, and we will create an adventure safari to suit your needs. Rented 4x4 vehicles come with optional roof-top tents, fridges and other camping equipment.
Sand Boarding and Dune Boarding
Take to the slopes with a snowboard strapped to your feet! 80m high dunes with some almost vertical drop-offs provide all the exhilaration you want. For those with little or no snowboarding experience, dune boarding is the way to go … simply lie on the board, hold on tight, push off, close your mouth and enjoy the ride!
Explore the spectacular desert dune landscape by quadbike! Guided rides offer a way to access this vast expanse of sand not possible with other vehicles. The guides lead the way and there is plenty of opportunity to open up the throttle and experiment with jumping the dunes. Quad bikes are less damaging to the terrain than most off-road vehicles, but all the same, this trip utilises an area of dunes that is specially set aside for the activity. It lasts two hours, covering 60km, and by the end you're guaranteed to have sand everywhere!
Kunene River Rafting / Canoeing
The Kunene River forms the border between Angola and Namibia and flows through wild, arid mountains as well as both the Kalahari and Namib deserts on its way to the Atlantic Ocean. A Kunene River adventure holiday promises exhilarating canoeing or rafting through white water rapids in this remotely beautiful region. Combine this adventure with a wildlife safari in the Etosha National Park, for an adrenalin-filled Namibia adventure package.
Take a break from the harsh interior, and embark on a sea kayaking adventure from Swakopmund or Walvis Bay. Day tours in the Walvis Bay lagoon area and Pelican Point offer visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with the abundant bird life, seal colonies, and sometimes dolphins and whales. No previous experience necessary. Single and double kayaks and all safety equipment provided.
The Arnhem Cave is the largest in Namibia, located on the edge of the Kalahari desert, about 150km from Windhoek. With over 4,500m of tunnels to explore, at depths of up to 110m, the cave system is home to 6 different species of bat, as well as shrews, beetle spiders and stingless scorpions! Guided caving tours are conducted by experienced guides, and all safety equipment and torches are provided.
Hiking the mighty Fish River Canyon
The spectacular natural phenomenon of the Fish River Canyon is one of Namibia’s top tourist attractions, but only the fit and sure-footed should consider hiking here! Over 160km in length and reaching 550m deep in places, the Fish River Canyon is the magnificent setting for one of southern Africa's greatest hikes. The 90km trail, fom Hiker’s Point to Ais Ais, takes 5 days, and hikers need to carry all their supplies with them. Terrain varies from sand to boulders and river crossings. Numbers are strictly limited, and advance bookings are essential.
Hot Air Ballooning
A more sedate adventure … but probably the most unforgettable and beautiful experience in the Namib Desert. The adventure begins before sunrise when you are collected from your accommodation, and driven to the take-off area. Once the balloon is airborne you drift silently over the dunes for about an hour, enjoying exceptional views as the sun rises over the desert landscape. Enjoy a champagne breakfast at your landing site, before returning to your desert lodge.
