Money
The unit of currency in Kenya is the Shilling. The largest denomination note is Ksh 1000 followed by Ksh. 500, Ksh 200 Ksh. 100 Ksh 50 and coins; Ksh 20, Ksh, 10 Ksh. 5 Ksh 1 Ksh 0.5 (5 Cents). All these can be obtained in forex bureaus in hotels and airports.
All the major Credit cards and travellers cheques are recognized and widely accepted. Standard Chartered and Barclays Bank ATM machines accept VISA and MASTERCARD cards.
Banking
Banks are open Monday to Friday: 09:00-14:00 (16:30 in the major cities); 09:00 – 11:00 on the first and last Saturday of each month. Many of the airport banks and bureaux de change are open 24 hours every day. National and international banks have branches in Mombasa, Nairobi and most other major towns.
