African Big 5 Safaris
What are the "Big 5"?
"Big 5" refers to Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Cape Buffalo. This term was historically used to denote the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa. Today it refers to some of the most exciting wildlife most of you will want to see on your African Big 5 Safari. Of course there are many other magnificent, beautiful and frequently elusive animals, including the cheetah, giraffe, hippo, and gorilla, but not all African animals can be found at all safari destinations.
For the best chance of seeing the Big Five, go on safari in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania or Zimbabwe. The Sabi Sand private reserve, bordering South Africa’s Kruger Park, has a high density of leopards, and is the region where you have the greatest chance of spotting all of the Big Five.
